L.O.C.
Determined, passionate, relentless & frustrated... These are all words that can describe the Mile Hi city's favorite son... L.O.C.. Born & bred in the streets of Denver, Co, he has been kickin verses for well over a decade now and sees no end in sight. "I started out as a freestyle rapper back in the late 80's and early 90's" L.O.C recalls, "and I just fell in love with the way words intertwined over beats to tell the story of someone's life lessons." His style and delivery are smoothly captivating as he describes his life, his loves and his ongoing struggles. "When I started putting my last album together I had just severed ties with my previous label after wasting 4 years of my life with them, and I was musically frustrated but at the same time very happy with my home life. So I just went into the studio and let whatever was inside of me come out." L.O.C. adds. The result is a front to back heartfelt composition sprinkled with a few club tracks, that anyone who loves hip hop will be sure to enjoy. L.O.C. has had several set backs in his career, but has somehow managed to utilize each negative experience by seeking therapy in the pages of his notepad. "I find that my anger, hurts and frustrations seem to disappear through the ink that I use to create my songs." He jokingly adds "Rather than pay some shrink to listen to my problems I lay em on a CD and people pay me to listen to em...Go figure." One might think that after 6 years of broken promises and disappointment after disappointment this artist might just give up and throw in the towel, but L.O.C. responds "There is no way I could ever give up on music. Every time I hear a fat track on the radio I get the itch like a drug addict going through withdrawals. I'm gonna be doing something music related until the day they lower me into the ground. Please believe that!" Although he only his 3 releases under his belt, don't think for a minute that L.O.C. has just been sleeping for the past decade. In addition to being featured on over 15 CD's, including tracks with Frost, Rappin Fortay, & Junebug Slim, L.O.C. has also co-hosted a local TV talk show called "Latin Lingo" and has written articles for one of Colorado's only underground hip hop magazine "Ultra Sound". "Its not that I haven't been doing my own music for all these years, because I have been," he offers. "I was just doing music with the wrong people and allowing myself and my career to be held back in the process." He has also opened up for such hip hop legends as Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Whodini, Big Daddy Kane, Yo-Yo, & MC Lyte as well as other major label artists- E-40, Rick Ross, Twista, Spice 1, Bone Thugz-n-Harmony, The Outlawz, Lil Flip, Xzibit, Tech Nine, Big Pun, Lighter Shade of Brown, Baby Bash, J.T. of N2Deep, Rappin Fortay, MC Eiht, Frost, Chingo Bling, & W.C. of the Westside Connection. This is definitely an artist who isn't willing to wait for fate, he goes out and takes destiny into his own hands and makes things happen. L.O.C. embodies what hip hop is all about and the evidence can be found within the confines of his catalog of music, and the fact that he is still recording after all of these years is a true testament to his drive and determination. |
