As a young girl Rena began developing a love and passion for music and the desire to entertain others. At the age of 5 she was already able to recognize different vocal arrangements, patterns, and instruments by listening closely to her mothers records. It was those kinds of moments that made her realize how moving and influential music could be and how she wished she could be given the gift to touch other peoples hearts with her voice. Rena grew up listening to the music of artists such as Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Gladys Knight, Santana, Whitney Houston and more. These artists influenced Rena profoundly and inspired her to become what she is today.
Rena’s enthusiasm for sharing her music with others didn’t develop until she was 15 years old. She began singing in the church and by the time she was 17 she was singing in a 180 voice choir at a Baptist church in San Diego. This is the moment she realized that she had the gift to touch others through her music. She also learned much about her vocal range and learned about the technical aspects of singing.
Being as humble as she is, Rena was in the back corner of the choir room singing, listening and learning for 5 years before the director found out that she could actually sing. From that point on the choir director called on Rena to lead a few worship songs. Eventually she was asked to sing her first church solo of the song Via Dolorosa. After that Rena became well known in the church and was asked to lead quite often.
Outside of developing her voice as an adolescence Rena was able to develop herself as a person. Throughout her singing in the church choir she began to realize that the struggles she faced as a young woman, many other young women face as well. Between her singing and personal development Rena was able to fight through adversity and has worked to encourage others to do the same.
Since her days in the church Rena has been working on several recordings and has teamed up with rapper T.E.S.T on separate recording and performance ventures. Rena has recently joined with Powermoves Entertainment to help her touch a national audience and realize the passion for singing and helping others through the gift of song. Rena is currently in the studio working on her single and has already generated a demand for her singing by fans and producers alike.
